All the Questions and Answers
This section contains all the questions and answers in the FAQ.
- The FSOC is a limited company. Doesn't that mean it's a commercial operation?
-
Like most car clubs, the FSOC is run by unpaid volunteers in their spare time. It is registered as a company limited by guarantee so that the liability of all individual members is restricted. One of the caveats of this special status is that the Club must be run as a non profit-making organisation, selling only to its members.
The assets of the Ford Sidevalve Owners' Club, including its premises, spares stock and other items, are owned by the members and every single member has an equal stake.
-
- Can I get hold of a copy of the Club's magazine?
-
The Club magazine is mailed free of charge to all Club members, and the most recent issue is sent to all new joiners. The FSOC does not supply copies of the magazine to non-members although magzines are usually available for inspection at one of the many shows where the Club has an official stand.
-
- How can I find out about vehicles or parts for sale?
-
Sidevalves regularly crop up for sale in the UK classic car press, and the Club magazine "Sidevalve News" usually has a fair selection for sale. The simple answer is therefore: Join the FSOC! and read the magazine.
The Club accepts advertisements from both members and non-members for any Ford side-valve related item free of charge for publication in its magazine Sidevalve News and on this website. Although all adverts will be published, non-members may only view "Vehicle for Sale" adverts on-line.
Regerettably, only private individuals (no Traders please) may use this free service.
Visit our Classifieds page and use our online advertising form.

- Why are there no telephone numbers published for Club officials?
-
All Club officials are unpaid volunteers and cannot be expected to be on-hand at all times, particularly via a telephone number which demands an immediate response. Remember too that some enquiries require research which is not always available to hand.
Any official who is willing to answer telephone enquiries has his or her number published in the Club magazine, along with times during which they are willing to accept calls. Please respect these times if you choose to contect them by telephone, and bear in mind your call might be at an inconvenient time for the recipent whereupon you may be asked to call back.
Most committee members can be contacted by Email via our Contacts page.
-
- Can I join the Club online?
-
Unfortunately you cannot as yet join online, we respectfully request you print out and complete our membership application form and send it to our membership secetary via our Contacts page.
-
- Why won't you supply spares to the USA or to Canada?
-
This is due to a restriction imposed on the Club by its insurers. They take the view that the risk of litigation in North America, if spares supplied by the Club were to fail in service, is greater than in other countries. This applies to all spares, not just to what one would normally regard as "safety" items.
The Club sincerely regrets being in this position, and offers concessionary overseas membership rates to residents of both countries. The situation however, is regularly reviewed.
-
- Can you supply a current spares list?
-
The Club's spares and regalia lists (including remanufactured, new-old-stock and second-hand items for all models catered for by the Club) are constantly updated, and the most recent are published in each issue of our Club magazine "Sidevalve News". Regrettably, Club spares are available to members only.
To find out more about the kinds of spares we generally carry, please visit our Spare Parts page.
-
- Do you cater for customised or modified vehicles?
-
Yes we do, as with any Ford Sidevalve-derived vehicle, we positively welcome such vehicles. The Club was originally founded by enthusiasts who often modified their vehicles, but these days most members want to restore their vehicles to their original state, although many use period tuning parts, and some regularly drive in competitions and trials.
Vehicles built by individuals or specialist companies, based around Ford side-valve components, are welcomed by either our Specials or Specialist Applications Registrar - the more unusual the better!
Remember too that the Club and its members welcome any condition of vehicle whether it's glorious or grotty, let alone if it's standard or modified.
-
- I wrote to the Club's spares secretary/technical adviser/membership secretary and have not
yet received a reply. Can you chase them for me?
-
The Webmaster cannot intervene in correspondence with other Club officials. If you have any concerns, please write to the official again yourself.
-
- I don't think my Ford vehicle is covered by the Club, but can you tell me where I can
find a club that caters for it?
-
Try our links page, this contains many of the other Ford car owners' clubs.
-
- I've located a car with its original registration plates attached, but no DVLA documentation
or V5C. How do I go about claiming back my registration number?
-
Members may visit our page of information devoted to claiming original registrations on Ford side-valve powered vehicles, you'll find this in the members only area.
Regrettably, this service is only available to members of the FSOC - but you could always Join Us!
