The
FSOC is a limited company. Doesn't that mean it's a
commercial operation?
The club is run by unpaid volunteers in their spare time.
It is registered as a company limited by guarantee so
that the liability of all individual members is
restricted. One of the caveats of this special status is
that the club must be run as a non profit-making
organisation, selling only to its members.
The assets of the Ford Sidevalve Owners' Club, including
its premises, spares stock and other items, are owned by
the members. Every member has an equal stake.
Can
I get hold of a copy of the club's magazine?
The club magazine Sidevalve News is mailed free of charge to all
club members, and the most recent issue is sent to all
new joiners. The FSOC does not supply copies of the
magazine to non-members.
How
can I find out about vehicles or parts for sale?
Sidevalves regularly crop up for sale in the UK classic
car press, and the club magazine Sidevalve News usually has a fair selection for
sale. The simple answer is therefore: 'Join the club and
read the magazine'!
Non-members may, however, place a sidevalve-related 'For sale' advertisement free of charge in the next
available issue of Sidevalve News. Click here for our online advertising form.
I
have a car or spares that I wish to sell. Can the club
help me?
The club accepts sidevalve-related advertisements free of
charge from NON-TRADERS ONLY, for publication in its
magazine Sidevalve News. Click here for our online advertising form.
Why
are there no telephone numbers published for club
officials?
All club officials are unpaid volunteers. More often than
not, the timing of telephone calls is a great
inconvenience to them; in addition, many enquiries
require research which is not always available to hand.
Any official who is willing to answer telephone enquiries
has his/her number published in the club magazine, along
with times during which he/she is willing to accept calls.
Please respect these times if you use these services.
Most committee members can be contacted
by email via our contact us page.
Can
I join the club online?
Unfortunately not, we request you print out and complete
our membership application. and send it to our membership secetary.
Why
won't you supply spares to the USA or Canada?
This is due to a restriction imposed on the club by its
insurers. They take the view that the risk of litigation
if spares supplied by the club were to fail in service is
greater than in other countries. This applies to all
spares - not just to what one would normally regard as
'safety' items.
The club sincerely regrets being in this position, and
offers concessionary overseas membership rates to
residents of both countries. The situation is regularly
reviewed.
Can
you supply a current spares or regalia list?
The club's spares and regalia lists (including
remanufactured, new-old-stock and second-hand items for
all models catered for by the club) are constantly
updated, and the most recent are published in each issue
of Sidevalve News. This is available to members only.
We cannot supply spares or regalia lists online or via
email.
To find out more about the kinds of spares we generally
carry, please visit our spares information page.
Do
you cater for hot-rodded vehicles?
We do not exclude hot rods, although these are something
of a minority - but enthusiastic - interest. The club was
originally founded by enthusiasts who often modified
their vehicles, although these days most members want to
restore their vehicles to their original state. Many use
period tuning parts, and some regularly drive in
competitions and trials.
Vehicles built by individuals or specialist companies,
based around sidevalve components, are welcomed by our
Specials Register.
I
wrote to the club's spares secretary/technical adviser/membership
secretary and have not yet received a reply. Can you
chase them for me?
The Webmaster does not intervene in correspondence with
other club officials. If you have any concerns, please
write to the official again yourself.
I
don't think my Ford vehicle is covered by the club, but
can you tell me where I can find a club that caters for
it?
Try our links page these contain the many of
the other FORD car Clubs.
