| The 107E was a hybrid
model, comprising the discontinued 100E Prefect bodyshell
mated with the new 105E Anglia's OHV engine and running
gear - including a four-speed gearbox. The car was
introduced at the 1959 motor show to fill a gap in Ford's
range for a small four-door saloon until the arrival of
the Consul Classic. When introduced, the 107E was competing in an increasingly competitive sector of the market, including the new Austin A40, Triumph Herald and the venerable Morris Minor. Its performance was generally better than most of the competition (it could out-accelerate the Minor by six seconds from 0-60, for example), yet it was cheaper than all the two-door newcomers except the minis and Ford's own 100E Popular (the cheapest car at the show). After just a couple of months' production the 107E was fitted with its characteristic 'dogleg' chrome trim on the front wings, which helped distiguish its appearance from the 100E. Many were also sold with two-tone paintwork. Click on the link to obtain the data sheet (PDF)
